As opinion polls show, Chinas behaviour in the South China Sea, Xinjiang, Hong Kong, over Taiwan, in its cynical attempts to mobilise ethnic Chinese living abroad and in Xis praise for the United Front Work Department of the Chinese Communist Party only sour public attitudes towards it, in Australia, South-East Asia, Europe and the United States.
There are popular and political judgments being made about China its system, leadership and external behaviour that will be immensely difficult to shift.
