@GilbertXI I’m in most of the same boat as the person you were asking. The problem Animal Crossing has always had from the beginning is routine. It was more hidden in the first game because everything was so new. When the sequels started coming out they never really added all that much new. You had new clothing and furniture but otherwise they were the exact same game. New Leaf started in the right direction with some town customization, and New Horizons helps with teraforming.
