Anger over ‘obscene’ red tape in Fraser Island fire bungle

The fire has grown by about 6000 hectares since Monday and has been burning for six weeks, with one witness saying yesterday ash was falling out of the sky “like snow” and the moon was glowing red.Queensland Fire and Emergency Service was finally able to take over management of the site from Queensland Parks and Wildlife at midday on Friday.QPWS is responsible for managing World Heritage Areas during a bushfire, with QFES seizing control when a threat to lives or structures emerges.
