All planned procedures at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham due to take place this month have been axed.
The rising number of very sick patients with Covid and other conditions is blamed for the decision.
Gynaecology procedures at Good Hope Hospital have also been paused.
It’s a massive blow for residents waiting desperately, some in pain, for life enhancing operations including joint replacements, hernias and other conditions deemed not life-critical.
