AFL football boss Steve Hocking believes the leagues new stand rule is having a significant impact on the play in trial matches.
But a VFL coach says its a matter of time before teams begin to outsmart the regulation change in search of victory.
Under a new rule introduced for 2021, men on the mark are effectively banned from moving side to side.
Minimal lateral movement is permitted but 50-metre penalties will be handed out if umpires believe the defensive player has shifted too far.
