Activewear entrepreneur ensures art is in the right place

Ms Geary, a Queensland finalist for The Australian Women’s Weekly Veeda Women of the Future Awards, launched Umelore in June, following her success with her activewear brand Faebella, which incorporates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists’ work.

She said Umelore eliminated lengthy and legally complicated licensing negotiations for the art, which was booming in popularity.

She worked with 15 Indigenous artists at Umelore, with the hope of expanding in the future.

“My view is as long as it’s done in the right way, as in with correct painting and licensing agreement, I see it as a positive,” she said.
