Overactivation of MAIT cells in some people can provoke inflammation, which leads to severe damage to the individual.

Varieties of studies have been done by scientists with a clear mind to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In search of some medicines, they gazed at the patient’s immune response to the virus. They found that anti-bacterial T cells called MAIT cells are stimulated when the patient suffers from a moderate or severe form of the disease.
