Accused ISIS supporter was found with false Venezuelan passport, court told

“However, Witness 1 also had arguments with the applicant because of his [Mr Talib’s] support for ISIS because of him arguing they were OK and they were not extremists, so it seems there is mixed evidence within the affidavit of Witness 1 about any state of mind or ideology of the applicant.”

Ms O’Connor said Mr Talib was found with a Ciphr encrypted phone in October 2020 and refused to give authorities access.

“It is not an ordinary phone, it is a particular device designed to avoid law enforcement oversight,” she said.

Ms O’Connor said the Venezuelan passport Mr Talib was accused of obtaining fraudulently remained missing and there was a real possibility he still had it in his possession.
