It took a panic attack at 30 seconds to news time to make me realise I wasn’t really coping.

“You OK, Tam?” came the disembodied voice of my director Pete, through my earpiece.

Heart racing and stomach churning, I watched the thick red second hand on the studio clock silently sweep us closer to 7:00pm. The lights were making me sweat.

“Nup. I’m either going to pass out or vomit. You might have to cut to something.”

As the opening sting to the news theme thudded through me, all I could think was: “Just keep it together. You cannot drop your bundle on live television.”

For the next half hour, I clutched the news desk like a life raft with both hands, knuckles white. When it was finally over, I fled the building, rattled and relieved.
