A ceremonial procession will kick off Trump’s impeachment trial. But that’s just the beginning of it

The Senate trial to impeach former US president Donald Trump is inching closer, but there’s still a lot that needs to happen before we know if he’ll be convicted.

The one article of impeachment was brought from one chamber to another in a formal “walk” on Monday evening (local time).

But that’s just the start, and there could be a few colourful twists and turns to come yet.

Here’s what’s going to happen next.

The nine Democrats selected to act as prosecutors carried the sole impeachment charge of “incitement of insurrection” across the Capitol Building from the Hall of the House of Representatives to the Senate Chamber at a little before 7:00pm on Monday, local time.
