At last, Africa eradicates poliovirus – The Southern Times

Windhoek -Africa has something to smile about on the disease control front after the Independent Africa Regional Certification Commission (ARCC) for Polio Eradication and the World Health Organization (WHO) African Region declared the continent free of wild poliovirus.
This is the second virus Africa has eradicated in 40 years after the elimination of smallpox.
