Sydney sevens cancelled as World Rugby invest $2.5m in Olympic funding – Sydney Morning Herald
The Australian leg of the World Series Sevens tournament will not be played in 2021 due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
World Rugby will push on with plans to try and play the other legs of the tournament – starting with Hong Kong and Singapore in April – which will serve as warm-up events for the Tokyo Olympics.
The logistical challenge of bringing nations from all over the world together to play sevens tournaments could see Oceania-based countries establish a bubble and play each other in preparation for Tokyo.
