The deal, reported to be worth $1.64m, will be confirmed on Wednesday, according to reports in Australia.
The Australian knocked back a chance to take over the Warriors full time, deciding he wanted to head home.
According to the Daily Telegraph he has landed the Cowboys job as Paul Greens replacement.
