‘My password was Waratahs’: Why Hodge passed up trying to play for his beloved club – Sydney Morning Herald
Manly boy Reece Hodge used to run around in a Waratahs jersey as a kid. But he took a chance with both hands in Melbourne five years ago and hasn’t looked back.

“I probably changed over the last five years and don’t want them to win too much these days.”
The Waratahs’ loss was Melbourne’s gain when Hodge signed a two-year deal for the 2016 and 2017 Super Rugby seasons, after chipping away in the Shute Shield for Manly as well as in the National Rugby Championship.
He could have stuck it out and tried to forge a career in his home state but Waratahs officials weren’t prepared to offer the skinny kid a full contract.
