The growing trend for ball carriers to turn their backs to the oncoming defence raises the possibility of a potentially brutal NRL equation.
Firstly, he gains more ground. By lowering his height, he is maintaining leg strength in order to keep moving backwards against the resisting defence. It also makes it difficult for the third man into the tackle to drive into the back of his knees to bring him to ground.
