Jockey Jeff Maund drove Classy Joe to a narrow win in the TAB Handicap (2006m) but Todd Pannell, the rider of the second-placed Andrea Mantegna, fired in a protest for over-use of the whip.
The replay showed Maund struck his mount more than five times before the 100m of the race before Classy Joe rallied under his riding to score by a half-head.
