People sent to Peel Island leper colony off Queensland coast to be ‘isolated from society’
For 52 years people were removed from their homes and forced to live on an island off the Queensland coast.
More than 500 people were sent to a colony on Peel Island in Moreton Bay, east of Brisbane, from 1907 until its closure in 1959.
