Taiwan plans $11 billion boost in defence spending as it warns of ‘severe threat’ from China

The Taiwan government has proposed spending an extra T$240 billion ($11.8 billion) on defence over the next five years, warning of an urgent need to upgrade the nation’s weapons in the face of a “severe threat” from neighbouring China.
