Officials, and keen-eyed viewers, noticed the swimmer entering the water before the wall was touched by another.
Australia came within one-hundredth of a second of being stripped of bronze in the 4x200m freestyle relay.
Kyle Chalmers, Alexander Graham, Zac Incerti and Thomas Neill took bronze on the Day 5 event behind Great Britain and the ROC.
