Poker machine gambling losses in Victorian pubs and clubs fell by $710 million in the 12 months to June, according to new figures
Alliance for Gambling Reform chief advocate Tim Costello said that around half the money lost in pokies came from problem gamblers, making the reduction in losses a “silver lining” from the COVID-19 crisis.
“People have said to me that with the pokies shut, I’ve paid my rent for the first time, Ive fed my kids properly for the first time, Im never going back – its been a wake-up call going cold turkey,” he said.
