On this day 68 years ago, a new chapter of history began with the coronation of a queen whose reign would ultimately break the world record.
Queen Elizabeth II was crowned at Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953, just 16 years after watching her late father King George VI undertake the same ceremony.
