SpaceX has begun construction on the first of two planned offshore platforms to launch and land its Starship rocket. CEO Elon Musk over the weekend confirmed that the private spaceflight company has broken ground (er, water) on the ocean-based port, expected to be ready in 2022.
“Ocean spaceport Deimos is under construction for launch next year,” Musk tweeted in response to a fan’s rendering of the Starship rocket fueling up on the floating podium.
