Private markets have $27b ready to drive deals – The Australian Financial Review

Insurance is the hot space for private capital as managers seek to deploy billions of dollars looking for a return.

As a result, the share of public-to-private deals dropped from 51 per cent of total deals in 2019 to just 9 per cent in 2020. Meanwhile, the number of deals completed in 2020 dropped by 20 per cent.
The average deal size, however, increased during the year: Bains $3.5 billion recapitalisation of Virgin Australia was the largest buyout of the year. Bain provided both debt and equity.
Private capital can play an important transformational role in sectors going through structural change.
