Kaya Wilson turned a near-death experience into an ’empowering’ moment for change – ABC News
Laying on a hospital bed after a near-fatal accident, Kaya Wilson suddenly understood it was time to live in the body he knew should have been his all along.

On a beautiful, still spring day in 2016 on the New South Wales coast, Kaya Wilson picked up his surfboard and hit the waves, just as he’d done thousands of times before.
This time, however, his surf was dramatically cut short. After jumping from a wave, he landed headfirst into a sandbank, breaking and dislocating his neck.
“It was a very terrifying moment,” he tells ABC RN’s Life Matters.
Medical professionals told Kaya he was extremely lucky to have survived.
