The business brain allegedly behind a major crime syndicate which had defrauded the tax office of up to $17m is famous in New Zealand for all the wrong reasons.
This followed a day of dramatic arrests on the Gold Coast and in Sydney where a dozen members of the alleged criminal syndicate were arrested after an 18-month investigation by a combined task force of the Australian Federal Police, the tax office and ASIC.
Mr Alex, 49, his son Arthur, 22, labour-hire figures Kevin McHugh and Gordon McAndrew as well Mr Bryers, 62, have been charged with tax fraud and dealing with the proceeds of crime.
