Refinery closure triggers 150 job cuts at chemical plant – The Australian Financial Review
The fallout from the closure of Exxon’s Altona oil refinery has spread – Qenos will shut half its petrochemical plant in western Melbourne this year.
Exxon said it has been in discussions with Qenos since February to minimise the impact of the conversion of the 72-year-old Altona refinery into a fuel import terminal and has developed innovative solutions for medium-term arrangements to support the petrochemical manufacturer during the change.
We have held a strong relationship with Qenos for more than six decades and recognise that their decision today is a very difficult one, an Exxon spokesman said.
