Caleb Ewan’s Giro d’Italia is over within the first week, after the Australian sprint star abandons the race following two stage wins.
Caleb Ewan has pulled out of cycling’s Giro d’Italia, citing knee pain less than 24 hours after he had sprinted in dazzling fashion to his second stage victory in three days.
- Caleb Ewan won the fifth and seventh stages of Giro d’Italia in thrilling sprint finishes
- He never intended on completing the three-week race but his withdrawal comes earlier than expected
- Ewan said he had to “do what’s best” in preparation for the upcoming Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana
