Downer to cut 1000 jobs, review hospitality unit – The Australian Financial Review
Before the pandemic the hospitality business served food and drinks to 186,000 people every day at big sports stadiums, airports, schools and hospitals.
While Downer always expected to review the hospitality business at some point after buying Spotless, the pandemic had “brought it on”, Mr Fenn said on Tuesday, adding all big event venues were either closed or operating at a fraction of their capacity.
Some 6000 staff, mostly casuals, who worked at Spotless before the pandemic have been stood down and Downer has flagged a $20 million net annual loss for the hospitality business ahead of its results on August 12.
