Shocks galore as Wales legend named captain of Lions for Springboks tour – Fox Sports
Alun Wyn Jones has been named captain of the British and Irish Lions, which has thrown up plenty of surprises for their tour of South Africa.
The Welsh legend who has played 157 Tests and will be a Lion for the fourth time edged out England lock Maro Itoje for the role.
A year after their disastrous Six Nations campaign, the 35-year-old led Wales to the prestigious championship in 2021 to confirm his place in the squad.
Jones missed a phone call from Warren Gatland on Sunday, but promptly called the New Zealander who coached the lock at Wales for more than a decade back.
