Major venue’s warning on music caps

Cr Schrinner said any change needed to be in line with health advice but there was a double standard between the treatment of sport and music.

“We can see big venues like Suncorp or the Gabba filled up with 50,000 people or 40,000 people,” Cr Schrinner said.
“What we’re asking for today is just some fair rules [for the live music sector].
“It is being strangled and it is teetering on the edge of existence.”
Earlier this month, the state government announced a round of grants to eligible venues to provide $80,000 to those with capacity of more than 500 people, and up to $60,000 for smaller sites.
Some larger venues such as the Triffid have lost $75,000 in a weekend due to recent cancellations.
