23 COVID-19 cases from India detected in Qld hotel quarantine this year

A total of 23 cases of COVID-19 entering Queensland from India have been detected in hotel quarantine since January 1.

One of those cases was among two new COVID-19 infections reported in the state on Sunday.

The man had recently travelled from the COVID-racked nation, while the second case had flown in from Thailand.

It was not yet known whether the man was carrying the B.1.617 strain, which was first detected in India late last year. International health authorities were investigating whether the strain spread more easily or was less affected by vaccines.
