Bulldogs coach Trent Barrett wiped away tears after Canterbury overcame the loss of forwards Chris Smith and Matt Doorey to record an 18-12 win over Cronulla – their first for the season.
With Sharks forward Siosifa Talakai sin-binned for a shoulder charge that forced a groggy Doorey from the field in the 26th minute, Barrett was able to call Brandon Wakeham onto his bench as 18th because the Bulldogs had lost a player due to foul play under the NRL’s new rule.
