Prince Philip’s funeral nods to the Duke of Edinburgh’s historic ties to the Royal Navy, armed forces

As military bands played around the grounds of Windsor Castle prior to the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh, audiences from around the globe were given another glimpse of his service to the armed forces.

More than 700 army, navy, air force and marines personnel performed ceremonial roles during the funeral procession at the grounds of Windsor Castle, referencing the duke’s longstanding ties with the military as Queen Elizabeth II’s consort.

They included soldiers of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, who fired a gun salute, guards regiments in scarlet…
