Minister privately concedes Queensland’s heritage laws need tightening

When Ms Scanlon’s office was asked whether she believed changes to the Queensland Heritage Act were needed, Brisbane Times received no answer.
Instead, a comment was provided by an Environment Department spokeswoman.
“Minimum requirements for applications to enter places in the Queensland Heritage Register are set out in the Queensland Heritage Act 1992,” she said.
“These ensure applications can be properly assessed by the Department of Environment and Science and ensure sound decisions are made about whether places should be entered in the Heritage Register.
