Loss of historic Brisbane home prompts calls for heritage overhaul

Since June 2019, the Queensland Heritage Council has made decisions on a total of 36 places including applications to remove or alter existing entries to the register.
How Queensland Heritage Council assessment works
- Queensland’s State Heritage List includes 1789 places.
- It began in 1992 when 970 places listed by the National Trust were switched across.
- Developments lodged with councils with heritage concerns are referred to the State Asessment and Referral Agency.
- It seeks advice from a nine-member heritage team in Queensland’s Department of Environment.
- That team includes historians, architects and archaeologists.
- The number of staff has not changed since 2016.
