Motorist dies after he was trapped in submerged wreckage

A man has died on the Gold Coast after his vehicle veered from the road, crashed into a tree and was submerged in water while he was trapped inside.
Police said the Mazda utility was travelling northbound on Boowaggan Road when it crashed near the intersection of Gooding Drive at Merrimac about 80 kilometres south of Brisbane.
The ute then rolled several times after the impact.
Paramedics assessed the man on the scene about 9.20pm on Sunday but the 55-year-old man from Logan Reserve died at the scene.
Queensland police and emergency services could not confirm the cause of death.
Forensic crash unit is investigating.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage should contact the police.
