Fireworks, bottles hurled at police, damage cars at gathering of 1000 ‘hoons’

Several police cars were damaged after projectiles, including fireworks and glass bottles, were hurled at officers when they responded to a roving gathering of 600 cars and 1000 people on the Gold Coast overnight.
A bystander who filmed the gathering at one of the sites was attacked, and one of the cars involved later crashed, leaving its teenage driver in hospital with serious injuries.

Throughout Saturday night, police responded to mass gatherings of cars and people in the Gold Coast suburbs of Pimpama, Yatala and Molendinar.
