Virgin Australia has been accused of standing down around 170 ground crew employees due to a lack of available work despite them doing months of overtime.

Virgin Australia has been accused of standing down about 170 ground crew due to a lack of available work, despite them doing months of overtime and the airline trying to hire more people into that role.
The Transport Workers Union has taken Virgin to the Fair Work Commission claiming the stand-down notice sent last week was invalid and appeared designed to avoid paying penalty rates.
Virgin says most of the stood down crew are working close to their normal hours.
