The eco-friendly routes feature will be launched in the US later this year, with expansion to the rest of the world on the way.

Google’s Maps app will start directing drivers along routes estimated to generate the lowest carbon emissions based on traffic, slopes and other factors, the company has announced.
- Google Maps users will be able to compare the CO2 emissions of different available routes
- Australian users will soon be able to see how clean the air is en route to their destination
- Maps app users will also be able to compare car, biking, public transit and other travel options in one place
