It doesn’t hit the United States until Wednesday, but “Godzilla vs. Kong” opened internationally this past Thursday and the box-office responded to having a real tentpole film back in cinemas at long last.
In China alone, the movie pulled in a $70 million debut – the biggest premiere for a foreign title in both 2020 and 2021, and an 82% market share. That’s well above its nearest rival “Tenet” which debuted to $30 million in August last year.
