Critics condemn proposed youth crime changes in NT as ineffective and politically motivated

When Michael Gunner fronted up for his regular talkback slot on ABC Darwin last month, an audience member expressed his frustrations directly to the Chief Minister.

“When will you finally act to strengthen bail laws under the Youth Justice Act?” Chris asked.

The Labor leader was quick to defend his government’s approach to youth crime, saying a focus on bail was not a silver bullet.

“For me, that would be a distraction — we’ve already strengthened bail laws,” Mr Gunner responded.
