A free drop-in clinic has opened in Sarina to respond to a rise in STI notifications.
As Mackay grapples with an ongoing gonorrhoea outbreak, health authorities are concerned there are many people out in the community who are undiagnosed.
The Mackay Hospital and Health Service area has been in a declared gonorrhoea outbreak since July 2019.
In 2020, 893 cases of chlamydia and 226 cases of gonorrhoea were recorded across Mackay HHS the highest number of cases ever recorded for the area.
