Rio Tinto boss Jean-Jacques Sebastien didn’t rule out the possibility there would be consequences for the board and the executives over the company’s destruction of a 46,000-year-old Indigenous cave site.
The large shareholders that have made public pronouncements on Rio have clearly registered their displeasure about governance but also about the pointy-end consequences – the potential to impair Rios ability to secure approvals for future mining developments.
