Why Brisbane can’t afford to go over the handlebars

Many south-east Queenslanders know there are limited options when it comes to commuting, but relying on private companies to fill the void with e-scooters and e-bikes will only hamstring any real transport modal shift before it’s even begun.

Public transport is often dubbed too infrequent, inaccessible or costly. Walking or cycling to work in Brisbane sometimes involves traversing hilly terrain and long distances, leaving most to turn to the private, airconditioned car.

The result? Ever-increasing traffic on our roads causing gridlock and frustration, and it’s got even worse since the pandemic.
