One of Queensland’s favourite sons of modern times – Chief De Beers passed away peacefully at Living Legends in Victoria.
The 28-year-old son of Hula Chief won 20 of his 51 starts earning almost $1.6 million in prizemoney.
A two-time winner of the Doomben 10,000 in 1995 and 1998 – Chief De Beers was trained by Bill Calder.
The bay gelding which raced in yellow silks with an orange V and cap is also remembered for one of the most quirky statistics held by a top flight galloper.
