PNG travellers make up most of Qld’s new coronavirus cases
Queensland recorded eight new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, six of them infected travellers from Papua New Guinea, which was facing a growing outbreak of the virus.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk welcomed the fact there were no new cases of community transmission in Queensland on Thursday, but said eight new cases was noteworthy.
“I think that’s one of the largest [daily rise in hotel quarantine cases] we’ve seen,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“With six positives from Papua New Guinea, all of the measures announced yesterday are very timely.”
Some of the national supply of vaccine stocks has been redirected to the country to help curb the current outbreak, while flights from PNG into Cairns were halted on Wednesday to prevent further…
