The uncomfortable truth behind the NRL’s player age limit – Fox Sports
It’s the tragic backstory to the NRL’s introduction of an age limit on players.

Between 2013 and March 2015 five emerging rugby league stars took their lives in a tragic sequence that sparked the NRL into action.
Those players were Regan Grieve, Hayden Butler, Alex Elisala, Mosese Fotuaika and Fotu Francis Winterstein. Their deaths left an indelible mark on then NRL Head of Strategy Shane Richardson who knew something needed to be done
His solution was to reccommend players ould only make their top grade debuts in the year they are turning 19.
