The crowdsourced Asahi Linux project has published its first detailed status report to summarize the progress, and challenges, of getting Linux to run natively on the Apple M1 Macs.
Porting an operating system as complex as Linux to a system-on-a-chip as closed as the Apple Silicon wasnt going to be a walk in the park. The projects first detailed progress report gives a glimpse of Apples unique boot process, and the challenges it presents to getting another operating system to run on the hardware.
