Australian school principals at risk from violence, burnout, stress and self-harm, wellbeing survey finds

Four in 10 Australian school principals have been subjected to violence at work in the past year and some are so stressed and exhausted they triggered self-harm alerts in a national wellbeing survey.

- Of 2,248 principals surveyed, 38 per cent reported being subjected to physical violence in the past year
- Almost all respondents work heavy overtime, including 25 hours a week during school holidays
- The report’s authors are calling for an independent taskforce to investigate offensive behaviour in schools
