Brisbane’s one-time cultural hub to be added to UNESCO register
The archive includes scrap books, correspondence and exhibition catalogues, while the Arthur Davenport Photographs features artworks and installations at the Johnstone Gallery from 1964 until 1972.
Mr Bannerman said the gallery was the heart of Brisbane’s cultural scene.
“Sometimes it felt like Brisbane was a sleepy town back then, but the gallery was the epicentre of cultural life at that time, and if you weren’t there, you were missing out,” he said.
Mr Bannerman said the high profile of the gallery was impressive, given that the internet was non-existent at the time.
